West Geauga Middle School and Lindsey Elementary hosted their exciting building Scripps National Spelling Bee, followed by the District Spelling Bee. We would like to recognize all participants for their dedication and great work!
The middle school students qualified after winning classroom spelling bees for the building level. The following students participated: Jacob Moore, JJ Holt, James Botti, Paul Barras, TJ Percy, Claire Pierce, Michael Franceschini, Vera Caudill, Hannah Hederstrom, Darren Prince-Wright, Holden Kercher, Joe Kreutz, Sky Stauffer, Karsten Boukis and Ellie Pierson. Mrs. Arla Radel, a 7th and 8th grade ELA teacher, officiated the bee. While Mrs. Lisa Zimmer, a 6th and 7th grade ELA teacher, judged the students' incredibly difficult spelling combinations. After multiple rounds, the following six students continued on to the district spelling bee: Michael Franceschini, Vera Caudill, Darren Prince-Wright, Joe Kreutz, Sky Stauffer and Ellie Pierson.
At Lindsey Elementary, these 10 students qualified for a position in Lindsey's Spelling Bee: Jason Burch, Leo DiFranco, Anthony Finizia-Boisselle, Meav Hallaran, Hayden Savage, Marissa Starr and Cayden Zahler. They all did an outstanding job, clearly spelling and projecting their voices in front of 460 students, teachers, and families. Congratulations to the top spellers Libby Mayer, Emilie Wright and Madelyn Detwiler who moved on to the District Spelling Bee.
