Spelling/Word Work
Weekly spelling lists go home every Monday, along with a list of suggested ideas for practice. Students learn the word feature for the week on this day and write the new the words. Throughout the week, we practice using a variety of materials such as tile boards with magnetic letters, dry erase boards and word sorts. Spelling tests occur each Friday.
The weekly spelling lists are not meant to be memorized for the test because they are easily forgotten. Instead, it would be more beneficial for your child to understand and learn the word pattern so that they can apply it into their daily writing long term. We also learn 1-2 new sight words which are added to our classroom word wall each week. Below is a list of words that your child should know for reading, writing, and spelling fluency.
